In the previous video, you created a new order and entered some basic information about the property, like the property type and the address, and we left off on this property address screen. In this video, you will be taking exterior photos of the property.
Exterior photos are an important part of any appraisal. In the Automax app, exterior photos constitute the first stage of the actual inspection and data collection that happens on-site, followed by interior scanning and interior photos.
To get started with exterior photos, click on the “Continue to Exterior Photos” to open the camera screen. Here, you should see the video feed coming from your device’s back camera. To take an exterior picture, point the camera at the subject and click the circular, white button near the bottom of the screen. When taking exterior photos, it’s important to get all the available angles. For a typical property, these are the front, back, and street view. If you’re following along, I encourage you to pause the video at this stage and go and take some external pictures of your property. Great.
As you were taking pictures, you might have noticed that a new thumbnail icon appears to the right of the button you just used to take the picture. Clicking on this circular thumbnail opens up the image gallery, where you can see all the pictures you just took. There are several useful sections of this image gallery, let me walk you through them.
The first is the list of images here at the bottom of the screen. You can switch through the currently selected image by tapping on the image thumbnail. Alternatively, you can also use these arrows here to switch between pictures.
On the left of the screen is the list of labels. When taking exterior photos, we are mostly concerned with the front and back of the property, as well as the street scene. If a required label does not have any associated images, the icon will appear red, otherwise it will appear as a green circle with a white checkmark.
The third second of the image gallery is the analysis of the currently selected image, which is shown here in the top-right region of the screen. The automax app automatically scans any images you take and determines (a) what the most likely label of that image and (b) the quality of the image, both of which are shown here. If the label detected by our AI is not correct, you can manually change it by clicking on the blue “Tap to change” button, and then selecting a different existing label or creating a new one. For my purposes, the image is correctly labelled so I will close this list by tapping the X button in the top left.
To delete an image, click the trash button in the top of the image gallery, and to toggle the list of labels, tap the grid button also in the top right of the screen.
Finally, to close out this image gallery and go back to the camera screen, tap the X button in the top left of the screen.
At this stage, you can take additional exterior photos if you wish, or, if you have captured all the required photos, click on the “Continue to Scan” button, and then when prompted, click “Start Floor Scan” to move on to the next step.
